About Mark Sloan "Dr. McSteamy"

mark sloan

Mark Sloan. . . Where to begin. . . I mean he started out as Derek Shepard's best friend, but then again he did sleep with Addison Shepard (Derek's ex-wife), breaking up Derek's marriage. How could you not love him, though. He really makes the show fun. He joined the staff last season as their plastics guy. Since then has gotten the McNickname of "McSteamy." Can you blame anyone? Check out the abs above! Sloan has a reputation for hitting on all the nurses in the hospital and pretty much believes he's "God's gift to women." He was there for Callie Torres while her and George O'Malley had some trouble with their relationship. I have to admit, as much as I love George and Callie together, Mark Sloan makes a pretty fun match for her, too. As great looking as he knows he is, he has had a couple of rude awakenings. Maybe he's not as good as he thinks he is. He's tried to pursue Erica Hahn to no avail. She's out of his league (so she says) and doesn't do interoffice romances. That doesn't seem to stop Mark. He's pretty persistent. And with a body like that, I' wouldn't mind seeing more of him again . He also is trying really hard to get Derek to give up on Meredith because he wants his best friend back. Now that Derek is with Rose, he seems to wish him back with Meredith. He admits he's jealous because he misses the guy time he used to have with Derek. He also has managed to get the entire nursing staff to boycott working with him. When Miranda Bailey 'comes to his rescue' the best thing she can say about him is that "He's a whore!" but the nurses all knew that before they got involved with him. Perhaps he should expect more out of his relationships than just physical attraction?

Mark finds himself increasingly involved with Callie Torres.  What started out as numerous times having sex in the on-call rooms evolves into friendship, helping Callie find her true feelings, helping Callie with her new relationship with Eric Hahn, teaching her how to love a woman, and finally being the shoulder she can cry on after Erica leaves.  Has Mark found someone he can have a lasting relationship with, or is he still distracted by interns and nurses?  Meredith thinks he's on his way to try to get Lexie and she doesn't approve.  She sends Derek to tell him to stay out of "Little Grey's" pants.   It seems easy enough and he agrees, but soon can't get it out of his head.  She's all he can think about.  It starts to get more difficult as Lexie starts to come to him to learn - the residents don't teach her much, but Mark does.  She loses her O.R. priviledges because of a really huge mistake made with the other interns and she needs a way to fill the void.  Lexie shows up on Marks doorstep, lets herself in, begins stripping off her clothes and asking for him to "teach her."  We all know that this is more than any man could refuse and certainly Mark, of all men, cannot refuse.  Lets hope Derek and Meredith don't find out.

The next day at work, Mark tells Lexie that it has to be over - he promised Derek.  But she's everywhere, giving him looks, making comments and getting in on his surgeries.  He and Callie decide to create their own 12-step program, well a 1-step program of staying away from naked interns, but even Callie can't get his mind off of Lexie.  Mark doesn't even make it one day before he leaves Joe's with her.   Before he knows it, Derek Shepard's mother drops into town, the mother he could have called his own because they were so close.  She immediately knows that Mark is keeping something from her.  He crumbles to her about his relationship with Lexie and is embarrassed because she's so young.  Waiting for her to disapprove, she actually pushes him to continue.  She took it upon herself to meet Lexie and she's a good girl.  Even though she's young, Mark needs someone young like her to settle him down because, as she puts it, he still has the hormones of a "15-year-old."  But how's he ever going to tell Derek?

Suddenly Mark finds himself in new territory and I don't mean a relationship.  Evidently he and Lexie had a sexual mishap and he's broken.  In pain, in bed, naked and broken.  The only one Lexie can think to go to is Callie.  Torres assesses the situation, but she needs help.  She can't fix this, it's not a bone.  She gets Owen Hunt.  Utterly embarrassed that his problem has to be so public now, Mark is too embarrassed to even see Lexie like this.  She's trying to keep the interns from figuring out that it was her and feeling bad about what happened.  At the end of the day, she finds someone she can trust, Sadie, to keep watch while she lies with him and strokes his hair to help him get through this terrible thing.
